UNITED STATES Naval Health Clinic New England (NHCNE)

Naval Health Clinic New England in Newport is a comprehensive health care facility located at the south end of the Navy Complex at the corner of Third and Cypress Streets. It is one of three ambulatory care centers comprising the Naval Health Care New England command. NHCNE Newport provides a full range of outpatient services for the naval shore activities and fleet units of the operating forces, dependents of armed services personnel and other authorized beneficiaries. Inpatient care is provided by Navy physicians through a resource sharing agreement with Newport Hospital, the local civilian hospital on Aquidneck Island. NHCNE Newport has no emergency care capability and persons needing assistance should call 911 for an ambulance or report to the nearest civilian hospital.

Operating under TRICARE, the regional managed care program for the Department of Defense(DoD) beneficiaries, brings together the health care delivery system for each military service, as well as civilian health care providers, with three options of care: Prime, Extra and Standard. Under TRICARE Prime, which is similar to a health maintenance organization, beneficiaries must enroll to be covered. Services and fees for care vary with the other plans. All DoD beneficiaries are eligible to receive care within the military treatment facility. Non-Prime patients, including Medicare eligible beneficaries, can be seen on a space-available basis.
